Open register of defensive publications

A defensive publication puts an invention into the public record, with a date and a fingerprint, so that nobody can patent it later. This register publishes only text whose inventor chose to publish it, with the consent recorded.

Read this first. Publishing is not filing. A published disclosure is not a patent or a patent application, it gives no priority date at any patent office, and nobody examines it. It can end your own right to a patent: the United States allows one year after your own disclosure, Europe and most other countries allow none. This is not legal advice; ask a registered patent attorney or agent before you publish.

Published disclosures (0)

Nothing has been published yet. The first disclosure here will be one an inventor chose to publish.

How it works

  1. Draft a disclosure at iPatent with “keep a private copy” ticked. You get a private link.
  2. Open the publish page, paste the private link, read the preview, and tick the consent box. It is never ticked for you.
  3. The register shows the text at its own address, with the date, a SHA-256 fingerprint anyone can recompute, and a citation line. You get a withdrawal code once.

What the register keeps, and does not

It keeps the published text, the register id, the date, the fingerprint and your consent (the exact wording you saw, its version and the time). It never publishes the e-mail address or the printable version of a draft, and shows a name only if you type one. Withdrawing removes the text from this site at once; it cannot recall copies others have made.

Limits

The date is this server's clock, not a notary's. The register can check only that you hold the private link, so it cannot prove you are the inventor. No DOI is minted yet; that will be a separate step you consent to. Machine-readable list: /api/register.
